Monday Book Review - "A Man and His Mountain"
"A Man and His Mountain" by Edward Humes, 2013, Perseus Books Group, is the life story of Jess Jackson, the founder of the Kendall-Jackson Winery, a family run company he began while still married to his first wife, Jane Kendall. Jackson 's successfully controlled the entire production of his wines, buying up land, a french barrel company and starting his own distribution company. Though smaller vinters still shiver at the largess of his operation, Jackson was devoted to the business and the art of making wine.
Jackson began his career in law; making wine was a retirement hobby which grew into a full-time enterprise. After building the company, and retiring once more, he took up another hobby, buying race horses. Humes writes about how Jackson's dalliances quickly grew into a full commitment that included winning the Preakness.
This is a great read for wine enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and professionals considering post-retirement careers.
